London Commodity Exchange

= LCE
A commodity exchange, which emerged in 1954 as a successor to the London Commercial Sale Rooms. It merged with the Soft Commodity Futures Trade Association to form a single Recognized Investment Exchange under the Financial Services Act (1986). In 1987 it became the Futures and Options Exchange, (London FOX), Europe's leading market for trading in futures contracts and options in cocoa, coffee, white sugar, wheat, barley, and potatoes. It took over the Baltic International Freight Futures Exchange (BIFFEX), on which futures in dry cargo freight are traded, in 1991 and merged with the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) in 1996. LIFFE is now part of Euronext NV
